Agreed. Same goes for beanies/hats/sweaters/hoodies. Everything.

Ed Byrne made a list of laws he’d put in place if he was in power. I agree with this one.

I have a “Dogs - Turn Against This Land” T-Shirt. Never listened to anything by them, but the T-Shirt is awesome. I own nothing saying “Rolo Tomassi” on it.Clothing taste =/= music taste.

I barely know the names of any songs, at all. The ones i do know the names of tend to be ones like Thunder by ACDC, The Final Frontier by Iron Maiden  and Shameless by The Shameless for obvious reasons. If you can name every song you like you spend too much time reading the album cover and not enough time listening to music.

The name of the song is as important as the music itself. If it weren’t, then we’d simply have them all called “Track 3 from Band 3,465,825’s 4th studio album”. It is an inherent part of the art itself, creating a fuller experience. Also, you can listen to music and read at the same time, and if you don’t know the titles, how do you find them to listen to them?

So you can’t enjoy and appreciate music without knowing the song title and band name? Do you need to know the name of all the scenes of a film to enjoy it? NoDo you need to know the types of paint used to enjoy a painting? NoDo you need to know the source of the clay used in a sculpture? NoDo you need to be able to name the steps to be able to appreciate a dance? NoDo you need to know the lens and film used to capture a photograph to be aesthetically pleased by it? NoWhy is music so different from all other art forms?
I’m not saying that band/song names aren’t useful for organisation but if you took a recording of Stairway To Heaven by Led Zeppelin and put it on a disc, changing the meta data to Spring Clean for the May Queen by Heavy Metal Floating Light Source it’d still sound the exact same and i’d still enjoy it just as much.

But you’d never able to find it, because it’s be the wrong title an band, so you may never listen to Stairway again.
Some pieces of visual art use their name as an important aspect of the overall experience, too.
You don’t need to know each scene because you watch the film in full. If it were episodes in a series, you’d learn the one you liked to find it easier.

I have already said names are useful for sorting.Even if i couldn’t find the song again that wouldn’t make it a worse song…So by listening to albums in full, surely the way most artists wish to be listened to, i’m less of a fan?

You said knowing every song title was a bad thing. Noe you’re saying it isn’t.

Conversations are analogue, learn the difference between unnecessary and bad…

You said “[people who know the names of their favourite songs spend] not enough time listening to music”. To someone who known 99% of the titles of the albums and songs I like, that is an insult.

Learn to quote, every song you like != your favourite songs.Like seriously, you don’t even need to copy and paste from a different page, it’s all in the conversation above… If you are going to manipulate and cherry pick from written words everyone can read then you might as well just go be a christian.
